A Wheel and Away
Inside of a wheelchair accessible tipi

Atlantic Horizons

North Cornwall, England

Atlantic Horizons is a beautiful and well equipped glampsite, set in a stunning location on the North Cornwall coast.  The site is a family run business and the brainchild of two brothers, Bradley and Alex.  Brad underwent a serious accident which left him with a brain injury. He has since become passionate about providing a place where other people in a similar situation can find some respite.  As a result, they have built the site with accessibility in mind. While it is not yet fully wheelchair accessible across all areas, the owners have a definite commitment to make it so.

There are eight units, ranging from a basic bell tent through shepherds huts and nomadic yurts to a spectacular tipi.  When we visited it was a hard job to choose a favourite – the Stargazer dome was pretty special however.  It is one of only five such units in the UK.  This beautiful dome boasts massive windows and a large roof light, providing 360 degree views over the surrounding countryside.  Being in such a rural location means that there is no light pollution to affect the night sky views. These will be perfectly visible from inside. The inside is finished, as are all the units, to a very high standard.  As a result, your stay here will be very comfortable.

Each unit has its own compost toilet and shower unit, along with a dedicated cooking area.  Some of these are more accessible than others. However, the friendly and approachable owners are more than happy to discuss your own individual requirements and to accommodate them in any way that they can.

In addition to the purpose built units, there are five tent pitches on the level area at the top. Each has its own fully accessible toilet and shower unit.

Whole site accessibility

The actual site is fully wheelchair accessible, being situated on a level field with close cut grass.  You are permitted to drive right up to your unit to unpack before returning your vehicle to the adjacent carpark which is also flat.

The owners undoubtedly recognise what is important when glamping – beautiful location, well appointed accommodation, an honesty box providing eggs, firewood and more, a fire pit on each pitch.  And dogs are welcome across the site meaning your best friend can also enjoy the luxury of a stay here.
