Got my SS oil changed yesterday and the shop actually knew the difference between 5W30 and 0W40 for the LT1
Took my 2019 Camaro SS in for an oil change at a place near Mussafah that a fellow Camaro owner recommended and I have to say I was genuinely impressed because usually when I walk into a garage with this thing they look at the engine bay like it’s a puzzle and then try to convince me that whatever bulk oil they have in the back is “basically the same” as the Dexos2 spec that GM specifically calls for in the manual which drives me absolutely insane. The guy actually pulled out the proper Mobil 1 0W40 ESP Formula without me having to argue about it and he even reset the oil life monitor correctly through the infotainment screen instead of just ignoring it and telling me to figure it out myself which is what the last place did and I drove around with a change oil warning for three weeks until I googled the button combination. I was curious about whether I should be running a slightly thicker oil for the summer months here since the engine temps in August traffic can get pretty spicy and I ended up on a page where you could Explore full details online about the different oil grades and the reasoning behind the Dexos certification and it actually explained why the additive package matters more than just the viscosity number which was genuinely helpful without being too nerdy about it. Anyone else with an LT1 motor running the 0W40 year round in this heat or do you switch to something like a 5W40 during the peak summer just for a little extra peace of mind?
