Elite Hotel Knaust, Sundsvall
Sundsvall, Sweden
The hotel is situated in the centre of town and welcomes visitors with a sweeping marble staircase. The building itself has quite a chequered history, being originally founded in 1891 by Adolf Fredrik Knaust. Having arrived a s young man into Sundsvall, Adolf proved himself to be quite the businessman. He worked for a few years at the largest hotel in the city before it unfortunately burned down. At this point, Adolf decided to build a hotel made of wood to satisfy the demand before he could build his eponymous hotel. Hotel Knaust, upon completion, was grand and luxurious. It quickly became the place to go and saw many wealthy and notable guests. In later years, the hotel changed use and amongst the things, became the home of Sweden’s first casino. More years passed and the hotel Knaust was no longer the pearl it had been. However, it was purchased by the Elite Group in 2001 and has been very sympathetically restored.
The hotel offers many options including some fully accessible rooms. There are many beautiful period touches throughout which lend an air of luxury.
While the main entrance is up a flight of steps there is an alternative entrance which offers step free access in to the hotel.
