Almost bought a lemon Autobiography until I got a proper inspection done. Best money I ever spent.
I was this close to wiring a deposit on a 2016 Range Rover Autobiography that looked absolutely flawless, black on black with the rear entertainment and the deployable side steps, the whole nine yards. The dealer in Ras Al Khor was super smooth and the car drove like a dream during the test drive, no warning lights and the air suspension went up and down without any drama. Something just felt a little too easy though so I decided to arrange an independent inspection before finalizing everything. I ended up using one of those Dubai Range Rover Pre Purchase Experts that a friend recommended and honestly I’m so glad I didn’t skip that step. The inspector found that the car had been in a fairly significant front end hit that wasn’t reported on any of the online records, the radiator support was bent and the AC condenser had been replaced with a cheap aftermarket unit that was already starting to leak dye. He also noted that the timing chain had a faint rattle on a cold start that the warm engine during my test drive completely masked. The dealer acted shocked when I walked away but I could tell from his face he knew exactly what he was sitting on. If you’re looking at a used Range Rover just pay for the proper check, it saved me from a world of financial pain.
